In the city of Dukem, a truck stop town, positive activities and environments for young people are non-existent outside of soccer. Combined with the overcrowded, under resourced, ill-equipped, english literacy proficiency requirement for non-native speakers, impoverished school, and socio-economic environmental circumstances of life in Dukem, young people have a monumental roadblock to future success.

For many young people in Ethiopia, a better more fulfilled life is only attained through educational advancement. The plan is to provide an english book library and literacy tutoring, combined with writing projects and recreational activities, like soccer programs, designed to help build character through regional youth centers and trained teachers.

Project Summary:

The purpose of project TesfaMikel is to increase educational and life advancement prospects for active and in-active students in Ethiopia through;


  1. -formal and in-formal tutoring programs

  2. -organized recreational character building activities

  3. -extra curricular opportunities designed to develop community leadership
